Medieval fortress

Castle Allègre, ruins of a fortress known as the 12th century, offers a magnificent view of the Cevennes. From guided tours to groups are possible via the reservation Association for the Preservation Castle Allègre. Medieval festival the third Saturday in July at the Chateau Allegre. Every summer, the Association for the Safeguarding of Chateau Allegre holds a medieval festival. Visitors are welcomed in medieval costumes. Several activities are offered to the young and general public: Visit the castle, pottery workshop, archery, chain mail mesh and fitting helmet, dueling demonstrations without thank you, costume rental. Pôle mécanique

Located 5 minutes from downtown Alès, the 95 hectares of the Pôle Mécanique have been home to companies in the auto / motorcycle sector for more than 20 years in more than 8,000 m 2 of workshops.

Six circuits, including one with reversible speed (unique in Europe) with a 600 m acceleration line, are suitable for industrial driving tests, leisure activities and high-level sporting competitions.

Nature

At the heart of the Ceze Valley, in southern Cévennes, Allègre-les Fumades covers 2500 hectares and has 779 people in seven villages in very different charms: Arlenda, Auzon Drink, The Bégude, Mas Chabert, The Fumades-les-Bains and Les Vieilles Fumades, all nestled in lush greenery.

La Cocalière cave

This famous cave was hollowed out of the limestone rock at the height of the Jurassic period (Kimmeridgian, Tithonian - between 146 and 135 million years ago), and is only one branch of a huge underground network covering thirty kilometres or so.

Its history began 35 million years ago (Eocene, Tertiary period) and is still continuing today, for La Cocalière is a living cave, i.e. still in formation.

The steam train of the Cévénnes

Long blasts of a whistle and strident jets of steam announce the departure of the train. Leaving from Anduze, it takes you to Saint-Jean-du-Gard, winding through tunnels and along viaducts, to let you discover the valleys of the Gardon and their superb views from the open carriages of old railway cars.  A 13-kilometre trip that will enchant the old and young alike!

Casino and cultural events

During the cultural season many artists and musicians are exhibiting and performing at La maison de l'eau. Nearby in the heart of Allègre-les-Fumades you can also find a casino with slot machines as well as an outdoor area to play pétanque.
